Swim Meet Volunteer Descriptions

ANNOUNCER

The person who announces the progress of the meet as well as heat numbers and events. They will also give the score of the meet.

CALLER

The person who calls all volunteers prior to each meet as a reminder.

CLERK OF COURSE

Area of pool where swimmers go to get their cards (which tells the swimmer which heat and which lane they will be swimming). It is also a parent who prior to the meet, determines the number of heats needed for each event and assigns the swimmers to specific lanes and heats.

HEAT RIBBONS

Hands out a Heat Winner Ribbon to winner of each heat of each event.

HOSPITALITY

Distribute water throughout the meet to Coaches, Officials and Volunteers.

POSTING

Reviews printed results and posts the official results of each event received from the scorer.

RIBBONS

Records times, event, placement and team on ribbons from information on the event cards.

RESULTS WRITER

Receives the timer sheets from the runner and circles the official time. The timer sheets are then marked, sorted and passed to the computer operator.

RUNNERS

Take the cards from the timers and give them to the Results Writer at the scoring table.

STARTER

The Head Official is responsible for starting each event and running the meet. He/She is the only person who can call a false start, also acts as a Stroke & Turn official if there are not enough officials. He/She can also overrule another official.

STROKE & TURN OFFICIAL

He/She has the responsibility to judge stroke mechanics, touches, turns and finishes.

TIMERS

Using stop watches provided by the team, they actually time each event and the recording Timer of each lane writes all three times down. It is from these times that the places of each event are determined.
